Thanksgiving Food Drive @Community Solidarity

Community Solidarity is a food pantry in Hempstead, New York, where I have volunteered for many years. I’ve seen its impact on the surrounding community, which is one reason I keep coming back. One thing I love about this food pantry is what it does each Sunday before Thanksgiving.

As we all know, Thanksgiving is a holiday where we are supposed to be thankful for all we have. One thing that I am always thankful for is the ability to have a meal on my plate. But for many people suffering from food insecurity, that’s not the case. Community Solidarity wants to make it possible for those suffering from food insecurity to have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving where they don’t have to worry about not having a Thanksgiving meal because, as John from Community Solidarity always says, “food is a right.”

So tomorrow, November 20th, Community Solidarity Food Pantry is inviting all volunteers to its annual Vegan Thanksgiving Bonanza. It’s the world’s largest Vegan Thanksgiving. It’s free, of course, and anyone in need of food is welcome. At each Thanksgiving event, Community Solidarity and its volunteers have shared over 100,000 pounds of vegetarian groceries with thousands of people in need at this special Thanksgiving Food Drive on Long Island. Everyone coming for food will receive a week’s worth of vegetarian groceries, toiletries, and other necessities.
But why vegan? Every Thanksgiving, 46 million turkeys are killed for a holiday said to be about “giving thanks.” Today, 1 in 5 Americans struggle with hunger. Community Solidarity’s Vegan Thanksgiving Bonanza on Sunday is about helping people and animals. Community Solidarity is America’s largest vegetarian hunger-relief organization. They share millions of pounds of vegetarian groceries with tens of thousands yearly. By doing so, Community Solidarity promotes more compassionate foods, a smaller carbon footprint, and a healthier diet.

All in all, this Thanksgiving Food Drive is truly amazing. Community Solidarity can help so many people on this day, making everyone cherish the joy of a Thanksgiving dinner.

Will I see you there? I hope so! If you would like to come swing by and volunteer, we will be located in the parking lot at Cooper St. North & Washington Ave, in Hempstead, New York. The event will start at 1:00 P.M. for volunteers and 3:15 P.M. for those in need of food.
