In poverty-stricken areas, malnutrition can be a severe problem. Without enough money, people cannot buy the right amount of food or even the right type of food, and they can starve or become very sick. Malnutrition is caused by a lack of sufficient nutrients in the body. So if somebody does not have enough money to buy foods that will give them the nutrients they need, malnutrition is inevitable.

Let’s say there is a family with three children, a mother, and a father. Both parents work but make very little money and therefore live in poverty. The parents need to buy dinner for their children but, once again, have very little money. They buy processed foods from the gas station because this is much cheaper. The downside is that it is very unhealthy and lacks the necessary nutrients to maintain a healthy diet. This example is a prevalent trend in low-income families. They often need more money to buy enough nutritious food that produces the proper nutrients to maintain a healthy body.
One way we can fight malnutrition is by aiding food pantries with more and more food and the suitable, healthy types of food they need. Instead of giving food pantries things like potato chips and sugary cereals, we should give them more things like fruit, dairy, meat, oatmeal, etc. By doing so, we can provide the poor with more food so they do not starve and aid them with healthy food and the proper nutrition they need.
