Project Oatmeal

Recently I was speaking to a close family friend and he mentioned that he and his brother run a foundation called “Project Oatmeal”. He went on to explain what exactly “Project Oatmeal” is and I was very interested.

Apparently, oatmeal is almost always at the top of the list for the most needed food items in New York, and for good reason too. Oatmeal is a great food for so many reasons:

  1. Oatmeal is Inexpensive
  2. Oatmeal is highly nutritious
  3. Oatmeal is light to transport and has a long shelf life
  4. Oatmeal lowers cholesterol and is a great breakfast food
  5. Oatmeal is great for people of all ages, from children to the elderly

“Project Oatmeal” truly is a great foundation and since February 2013 they have raised over $117,000 and over 675,000 meals for delivery to the hungry people of New York.

One simple donation to this foundation can go a long way. According to their statistics, $18.12 buys 126 meals, $54.75 buys 365 meals, $144.96 buys 1,008 meals, and $1,159.68 buys 8,064 meals. According to these numbers, just imagine how many meals could be provided if our no1hungry fundraiser worked alongside Project Oatmeal with the shared goal of eliminating food insecurity across our communities. Our fundraiser was able to raise just over $3,000 dollars over the holiday season, so if we could match that number while working with Project Oatmeal, we could provide the community with over 24,000 meals!

I will be looking to stay in contact with Project Oatmeal over the next few weeks and work on setting up another no1hungry fundraiser for this amazing foundation.
