Nassau County is a reasonably large county with many different types of communities. What I mean by different types of communities is that the difference in living standards is very large. For instance, the median income of a Hempstead resident is around $27,000 whereas in Manhasset the median income of a resident is around $60,000. Clearly, these areas in Nassau County which are typically less fortunate than others are bound to have some struggles with food insecurity, and that is why they need our help. By volunteering at these pantries we can help to limit the difference in food insecurities across Nassau County, and hopefully make it much less of a factor than it has been in the past.
